How a New York Disability Lawyer Can Help You Without Leaving Home

Published on April 14th, 2020

Currently, amidst the ongoing spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States and across the world, we find ourselves in an unprecedented situation. Life as we know it has changed significantly. Many of our normal routines have been altered, and as a result, we are having to find a new normal. For those seeking much-needed Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits, the same is true.

It may be the COVID-19 pandemic that keeps you from being able to meet with your attorney, or maybe there is some other reason – perhaps illness, your disability itself, or simply the logistical difficulties of making it to the office.  Whatever the case, many wonder – if I can’t be present in person, does it mean that my case can’t move forward? Does it mean that you can’t apply for the benefits you so desperately need, or file an appeal if your application has been denied?

Fortunately, the answer to these questions is no. The good news is that regardless of whether you are able to come into the office or not, the attorneys at The Law Offices of Daniel Berger can help. Here are a few ways that we can work with you, even when you can’t leave home:

  • Telephone Conferences:

While a telephone call is never quite the same as an in-person meeting, it can still be quite helpful in keeping your case moving along. When you can’t meet with us in person, the team at The Law Offices of Daniel Berger is ready and available to speak with you about your case over the phone. We are happy to schedule specific times to talk with you about the progress of your case, to answer any questions you may have, and to advise you as to the next steps forward. We welcome those opportunities, and are always here for you.

  • Virtual Consultations:

Sometimes, your case may need more attention than a quick telephone conference can provide. In those instances, videoconferences are an excellent option for you to meet face-to-face with your attorney, even when you are both in different places. We are fortunate to live in an age of “smart” technology that seems to become smarter each day. With all of the technological advantages at our fingertips, it is easier now, than ever before, to meet and conference together virtually, for times when meeting together in person isn’t possible. There are a number of tools available for videoconferencing, all of which are user-friendly and easy to download, regardless of your device. At The Law Office of Daniel Berger, we have a tech-savvy team who is ready and willing to use videoconferencing whenever helpful, and to help answer any of your questions as you attempt to learn how to use it too.

  • Telephonic Hearings:

As of this writing, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Social Security hearing offices are closed to the public. While this is unfortunate, the good news is that despite having physically closed the offices, the government is still moving cases forward. As a result, those hearings which would typically be held in person are instead being held telephonically. This means that applicants for benefits are able to remain in their homes while they attend the hearings, while the Administrative Law Judge and attorneys also attend remotely. At The Law Offices of Daniel Berger, we are able to prepare our clients for these hearings via a video conference or a telephone call beforehand, and we will always be available to attend these telephonic conferences and advocate on their behalf.

  • Email:

Today, we are fortunate that so many things can be shared, filed, and communicated through email, where paper and pen was once required. Whether it is emailing back and forth about the details of your case, completing applications online, e-filing important documents, or communicating with officials at the Social Security Disability Office about the status of your application for benefits or your appeal, much can be accomplished through email. Gone are the days where a paper copy of every document needs to be available. Fortunately, for those currently at home and unable to come into an office, email capabilities significantly improve the progress that can be made on your case.

At The Law Offices of Daniel Berger, we want our clients, and potential clients to know that despite any uncertain times in which we may find ourselves, one thing is certain – we remain ready to serve you, and to help you obtain the disability benefits that you need and deserve.  If you need experienced legal representation to ensure that you receive the disability payments that you’re entitled to, call us today. We have over 18 years of experience helping clients seek disability benefits, and we would be honored to have the privilege to help you as well. We look forward to speaking with you soon.
